Europa Nostra held its autumn Board and Council meetings on 9-11 November 2016 in Leipzig, Germany, on the occasion of the denkmal fair, Europe’s leading Trade Fair for Conservation, Restoration and Old Building Renovation. An insightful three-day programme of events, with side meetings, ensured that participants had ample time to network and exchange views with professionals from the wider heritage field and participants of the denkmal fair.

Europa Nostra also organised two key events that brought together members of the European Heritage Alliance 3.3 as well as the wider public attending the denkmal fair.

European Heritage Alliance had a meeting and public debate in Leipzig on the theme

„Towards the European Year of Cultural Heritage 2018“

The event was organised in cooperation with Europa Nostra as the main coordinator of the alliance and Deutsches Nationalkomitee fur Denkmalschutz and supported by Creative Europe. The meeting was organised to strengthen messages and keep focus on the joint activities for 2018 since this will be a unique opportunity to address issues of utmost importance. One of them is certainly the problem of the financial limit to invest into cultural heritage monuments – 5 million euro maximum per object.

Goranka Horjan, chair of European Museum Forum stressed that this limitation is particularly difficult for museums. They are usually housed in a cultural monument that needs constant maintenance and often renovation and restoration on one hand and huge investment into museum contents and expositions to make them attractive to various audiences.
